Self proclaimed God man Nithyananda

On Saturday, when millions of devotees had to ditch the otherwise grandiose Ganapati celebrations and instead settle for an ordinary and unvarnished one in the wake of the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases, thousands of kilometres away in the newly-formed nation of Kailasa, self-proclaimed godman, Nithyananda, also called ‘Paramahamsa Nithyananda’ celebrated the launch of the “Reserve Bank of Kailasa” of which is the founder and Prime Minister.

Born as A. Rajasekharan in Tamil Nadu, Nithyananda is a self-proclaimed Messiah and Godman of Indian origin who wants to revive and establish Hinduism or the Hindu order of way. Apparently, he had bought a private island near Trinidad and Tobago or Ecuador and founded a micro-nation called ‘Kailasa’.

He runs his foundation ‘Nithyananda Dhayanapeetam’ and gives regular sermons. However, there are many cases of fraud against his foundation. If reports are to be believed, he was even accused of criminal activities and a case has been filed against him for a 2010 rape incident. He fled from India in October 2019 and supposedly laid the foundation of Kailasa in December of the same year.

No matter how bizarre all of that may sound to others, Nithyananda has actually launched the “Reserve Bank of Kailasa” and seems pretty serious about his endeavours. Details of his newly-formed nation, the bank and his activities can be found on his official website and Facebook page as well.

About the bank that he has unveiled on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the post says “KAILASA and its team of monastic members did extensive research and study of the Hindu Economic Policies covering over 100 books, 360 articles and research papers.” The post ended with “I BLESS YOU ALL- WITH THE GRACE OF GANAPATI, LET GANAPATI MANIFEST IN ALL OUR LIVES…”

According to him, the Reserve Bank of Kailasa has signed a treaty, MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) with another Nation (whose name has not been disclosed) and has agreed to host the bank. He released the currencies as well which are basically coins and he named it the “Kailashian Dollar” and one by one released all the coins. The main attraction of the occasion was the ‘Rajangana Mudra’ which he declared as the official mudra(currency) of Kailasa to be used by the Government of Kailasa.

Only the release was done on that day, there is quite some time to make it fully functional. He cleared the fact that whatever the devotees give, Kailasa will accept it graciously.

In addition to that, a Hindu Parliament which will be a parliament for Hinduism to establish a model government will soon be set up in Kailasa. “Within 6 months, we will release the members’ names and the entire structure, its principles and policies.” he posted on the official Facebook page. He even urges his ardent devotees and viewers to register and apply for free e-passport and free e-citizenship of Kailasa.

On that day, he also expressed his wish of staying and working in India if he was allowed to peacefully live here. “After I leave the body, whatever I gathered around me, everything goes to India, including my body” the mystic was found saying. Interestingly, in 2012, he was recognized as ‘100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People’ by Watkins’ Mind Body Spirit Magazine. In the same year, Nithyananda was appointed as the 293rd Pontiff of the Madurai Adheenam. A year later, in February, he was also conferred the honourable title of ”Mahamandaleshwar” by the Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara.

Nithyananda’s speeches and religious sermons have widespread and mixed reactions among people globally. While some tend to believe him as an “indisputable stalwart of humanity and human rights” and a “divine treasure” to mankind or to a certain extent, an incarnation, others simply call him a conman or a trickster.
