Security intensified in Cachar in view of Ganesh Chaturthi

The Cachar District Administration has issued an advisory on Friday (21st August, 2020), with respect to the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi on Saturday. The order states that, not more than 20 people will be allowed to perform the rituals in a particular place, at a specific time, and they must strictly follow social distancing norms, wear masks and practice proper sanitisation of the Puja areas. In addition to that, Puja attendees must follow all the guidelines, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and Government of Assam regarding COVID-19 protocols.

The advisory further states that concrete steps will be taken to keep a check on rumour mongers to ensure that social harmony is not disturbed. Moreover, it has also been stated that communally provocative contents on social media and cyber space will be blocked. “All possible efforts will be made to maintain peace and social harmony”, the order stated.

The administration has instructed the law enforcing agencies to be alert in communally sensitive areas to deal with any vulnerable situation during the festival and thereafter. In view of smooth and peaceful celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, the administration has intensified security in Silchar and other areas of Cachar District. As a matter of fact, the administration has deputed Executive Magistrate/Circle Officer, Sonai, Sudeep Nath to look after Sonai, Kachudaram and Dholai police station areas; Assistant Commissioner/Executive Magistrate, Deepmoy Thakuria will look after the law and order in Silchar police station areas; Circle Officer, Katrigorah/Executive Magistrate, Prasenjit Kumar Deb will look after Katigorah police station areas; Circle Officer, Udharbond/Executive Magistrate, Jayanta Chakrabarty will look after Udharbond and Borkhola police station areas.

“The magistrates will take appropriate steps as they deem fit and proper to deal with the situation, and they will report directly to the District Magistrate and Additional District Magistrate, Cachar Incharge Magistracy Branch”, the order quoted.
