The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Smti. Keerthi Jalli, IAS has visited several areas of the town on Tuesday (2nd June, 2020), to inspect the situation created due to flooding. Executive Officer, Silchar Municipal Board, Water Resources Engineers and PWD Roads Officials, were present with her.
According to the administration, the local public informed the Deputy Commissioner that the situation is a consequence of encroachment on all nala lands by private households and shops, and filling up of drains with open trash and garbage. The citizens requested the administration to immediately remove all such illegal encroachments.
The Deputy Commissioner visited the areas of NS Avenue, Radhamadhav Road, Bilpar, Purnapaul Road and Church Road. According to the administration, immediate restorative measures are being taken to address the existing problems as long lasting solution which means the improvement of culvert work may take some time.
