The District Administration of Cachar has been actively working against the unjustified price hikes that are often being witnessed in Cachar’s market places amid the pandemic. Teams of Cachar Administration are going on field to detect such illegal deeds and punish the stakeholders.
M/S Sunrise Stores of Fatak Bazar has been found to be involved in unjustified price hikes in wholesale prices on Tuesday. The team of Cachar Administration reacted instantly and got the store shut down.
The District Administration of Cachar has constantly been keeping the citizens, living in areas under its jurisdiction, updated about the prices of various essential commodities, in addition to prices of Vegetables, Fishes and Chicken, in Cachar District, issued by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
Moreover, Circle Officer has visited Sonai and Sonabarighat markets on Tuesday (25th August, 2020) to check the prices of essential commodities. Supply Inspector accompanied him. The surveillance resulted into a conclusion that the rates of the commodities have been set according to the approved rates. However, KGN Trading and Janata Store have been temporarily closed due to non adherence of instructions and social distancing norms.
The Deputy Commisioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli, IAS, conducted a meeting with all the merchant associations of grains, vegetables and fruits. The Member of Legislative Assembly from Silchar was also present during the meeting. The grain merchants reportedly promised that the prices of commodities will not be changed by them in the next 15 days. Vegetable vendors and fruit vendors were asked to refrain from artificially raising the prices, otherwise, penal actions may get initiated against them which may range upto cancellation of their trade licenses.
