Health Care workers on 24 hours strike, demanding regularisation of their designations

The ‘temporary’ healthcare workers under NHM (National Health Mission), Assam are on a 24 hour strike demanding their regularisation of work. According to the NHM spokesperson, the government has been ignoring their request for years and not regularising the contractual health workers, they were promised before the 2016 elections by the ruling government that, the government will regularise the healthcare workers which is yet to take place.

On August 3, 2020, the healthcare workers under NHM had sumitted an appeal before the Health Minister of Assam via the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, to look after the matter and put a solution forward within 15 days or the health workers will be bound to go on strike. To which there was no response and now the workers have refused to return to work for 24 hours straight.

The spokesperson added that Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, being the Health Minister as well as the Education Minister, if he can regularise the teachers working on contractual basis, then why the health workers who are currently at risk during their work cannot be regularised? They have demanded regualrisation on the basis of seniority.
