ASSAM FLOOD: FERRY SERVICES CANCELLED AFTER WATER IN BARAK RIVER ESCALATED

Cachar District Administration has cancelled all the ferry services in the district due to continuous rise in the water level in Barak River. Rainfall so far recorded on Wednesday is around 36 millimetres. The three most important rivers of the valley i.e., Barak, Katakhal and Kushiyara are running above the danger level.

The Executive Engineer of Water Transport Department B.Choudhary through a notification announced the discontinuation of the ferry services in the valley. The decision was structured basing on the current flood situation of Assam due to heavy rainfall which has fractured the state costing the lives of around 66 people and damaging the properties and livelihood of around 36 lack people in 26 districts of the state making many of them homeless once again.
Barak Valley is still in a better position compared to other districts but the situation may escalate at any moment and hence thinking about the security of the people migrating in the river the Ferry services has been cancelled.
