The 3 districts of Barak Valley have witnessed storms and landslides in unison. 20 deaths have been reported on Tuesday (2nd June, 2020).
The departed individuals include 11 children and 3 women. Seven deaths were reported in Cachar District, 7 more were reported in Hailakandi District and Karimganj District reported 6 deaths.
Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal has announced that the District Administrations and SDRF have been directed to start rescue operations.
Minister of Fishery, Excise, Environment & Forest, Govt. of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya announced that the ASDMA staffs are serving with “full power” to ensure rescue and relief. “An ex-gratia amount to the families of the deceased has been proposed to be handed over to within 24 hours after proper evaluation”, the minister added.
The state of Assam has been witnessing heavy rainfall. Floods have already killed 9 and affected nearly 1.97 lakh people in the state. Landslides added fuel to the fire.
