Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli visits Silchar Airport to take stock of facilities. Also visits NIT, Silchar and various containment zones

Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli IAS, visited the Silchar Airport at Kumbhirgram on Sunday to take stock of the preparedness of the Airport with regards to the resumption of domestic air travel in the nation. She was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan. They inspected and inquired about the facilities which will be provided to the passengers coming to the airport.

The Deputy Commissioner had a meeting with the airport officials and sought their support and cooperation in the fight against COVID-19. In the meeting, it was decided that a number of swab collection centres will be set up in the airport, where the swab samples of the incoming passengers will be collected, from where they will be taken to quarantine facilities. Medical teams will be deployed in the airport to screen all the passengers. The meeting was joined by the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar, Dr. Sudip Jyoti Das and District project manager of National Health Mission Cachar, Mr. Rahul Ghose.

Later in the day, the Deputy Commissioner also visited the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar and held a meeting with Sibaji Bandopadhyay, the director of NIT. Ms. Jalli inspected some buildings in the campus which would be turned into quarantine centres.

Earlier in the day, Ms, Jalli had visited Pechadahar (Ramnagar), Lamargram and Chirukandi, which were declared as precautionary containment zones, after a number of persons hailing from these areas has tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. Ms. Jalli ceremonially removed the tag of precautionary containment zone from these areas.
