IPL Team Analysis 1 : Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab are perennial underachievers in the IPL, who have consistently failed to achieve any meaningful success despite the presence of some very big names in their squad.

Despite losing some key players like David Miller ahead of the 2020 IPL season, it’s not all doom and gloom for Kings XI Punjab whose highlight in the 2020 IPL auctions was the re-signing of Glenn Maxwell, who was their star player in the 2014 IPL, where they saw Piyush Chawla snatch an improbable win for KKR from under their noses in the final, denying them their first title.

The Kings XIs have done very well to increase the depth in their batting, and the middle order is far better stocked than before. Players like Nicholas Pooran could play a very important role and all-rounders like James Neesham and Deepak Hooda especially could prove to be very smart signings indeed.

However, the bowling department, despite adding several new faces, doesn’t feel threatening enough. The lack of veteran T20 specialists in their bowling ranks could come back to haunt them.

Overall they look a far better squad than 2019, as with a strong middle order to compliment their extremely explosive top order of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul could prove too much for opposition bowlers. They probably don’t have the absolute best bowling unit in the tournament, but they’re still a force that should not be taken lightly.

The Probable Playing 11 of Kings XI Punjab, as predicted by Cachar Chronicles is as follows:-

  1. Chris Gayle
  2. KL Rahul
  3. Mayank Agarwal
  4. Nicholas Pooran
  5. Glenn Maxwell
  6. Deepak Hooda
  7. Krishnappa Gowtham
  8. Sheldon Cottrell
  9. Murugan Ashwin
  10. Ishan Porel
  11. Mohammed Shami
