Amid various disagreements against the latest Assam delimitation draft in Barak Valley, the students of the region have now started registering their reactions. On Friday, a group of students organized a meeting at Silchar Press Club to assess the said delimitation draft.

“Students from various institutions and organisational affiliations have gathered here, irrespective of any organisational banner to unitedly assess the future of Barak Valley with respect to the latest Assam Delimitation draft”, said Subhashish Choudhary. He added, “I shall refrain from merely mentioning the set of actions, that the students have unitedly decided to take, as we believe in doing, rather than speaking”. Subhashish said that the actions to be taken by the group in the coming days will contribute towards securing the future of Barak Valley.

When asked about the possible consequences of the Delimitation draft, Subhashish replied, “Assam is a multi-lingual and multi-religious state. People speaking Bengali, Assamese, Bodo, Nepali, Hindi, to name a few, live in the state. We have been taught that in a diversified society, all sections should have proportionate representation. With that being said, our campaign will be aimed to secure proper representation of Barak Valley in Assam.”

The meeting was attended by Suraj Roy, Abdul Manna, Bapan Paul, Snehangshu Shekhar Bhattacharjee, Biswamitra Dey, Bibhidipon Nath, Ripan Das, Chirag Roy, Aniket Paul, Sunny Chanda, Sayan Nath, Swagatam Roy, Subhoshome Dewanjee, Snehal Chakraborty, Biswarupa Purkayastha, Debasmita Purkayastha, Subhashish Choudhary and Pinak Dutta.

It should be mentioned here that the Election Commission of India released a Delimitation Proposal for Assam on Tuesday. The proposal has been labeled as anti-Bengali by various organisations of Barak Valley. According to reports, Cachar BJP, at a massive party meeting on Thursday, labelled the Ashok Singhal led Delimitation Committee as “anti-Bengali”. Meanwhile, the Barak Democratic Front (BDF) called for a Barak Bandh on June 30.
