The Union Ministry of Education on 5th June 2023 had released the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). In accordance, Assam University Silchar was placed amongst the rank band of 151-200 in the overall category and it was kept in the rank band of 101-150 in the university category.
Speaking to Cachar Chronicles, Assam University Silchar Registrar Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath said that he was hoping that this year Assam University Silchar would be placed within the hundred ranking of NIRF in overall and university categories. However, he stated that even though it has not been placed within the desired ranking the University is trying to improve their ranking in the upcoming years. He also mentioned that just like the previous year Assam University Silchar had maintained to be in the ranking band of 151-200 in the overall category and 101-150 in the university category. He further stated that unlike other northeastern universities like Tripura University, Nagaland University and Rajiv Gandhi University, Assam University Silchar secured to be under the ranking band of within 200 University category and that the University is trying to improve the performance parameters to increase their ranking in the upcoming years.
Further, in conversation with the Vice-chancellor of Assam University Silchar, Professor Rajive Mohan Pant said that the University is trying to improve the factors which influence the NIRF ranking. He also mentioned that Assam University Silchar has produced more than 1000 research papers for the first time. He assured that the university is working on important points in order to improve the ranking in the upcoming years.
On the other hand, NIT Silchar earns the 83rd place in the overall category with a score of 48.13 and the 40th place in the engineering category with a score of 55.07. It should be noted here that the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched in 2015 and first rankings were announced in 2016.
