On Monday, May 29, 2023, veteran Bollywood action director, fight choreographer, and martial artist Deepak Das attended a preview screening of his first independent feature film, "ID," at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Assam University which explores the politics of identification in the northeast.

The 100-minute movie is about the human catastrophe that strikes a family after the NRC enumeration exercise to confirm the citizenship status of those who live in the NE region.

During the preview screening at the ICT studio of the Department of Mass Communication, Deepak Das spoke with the students about his experience working in the film industry. He discussed his experiences working with notable film and sports figures as well as Bollywood A-listers like Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, the Rajasthan Royals IPL squad, and others.

Prof. Partha Sarkar, the department head, welcomed Deepak Das to the department and expressed the hope that the students will undoubtedly benefit from such contacts with veterans of the Bollywood industry to comprehend how the industry functions.

Prof. G. P. Pandey, dean of the school, awarded Deepak Das the university honorary doctorate and praised the Department for its efforts to improve the relationship between academia and industry.

The program was coordinated by Utpal Shuklabaidya who happens to be a Research Scholar of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.
