Eight months after burial, the dead body of IIT Kharagpur student was exhumed from grave in Assam's Dibrugarh district following an order issued by the Calcutta High Court. It has been sent for postmortem for the second time as the HC observed that the investigation, which took place last year, had many loopholes.

The deceased student identified as Faizan Ahmed was found dead in IIT Kharagpur campus in October last year. His partially decomposed body was recovered by the West Bengal police on October 14, 2022 at IIT-K.

IIT-K authorities claimed that it was a suicide but Faizan's family alleged that he was murdered. Ahmed’s family had, last year, filed a writ petition in the Calcutta high court over it.

On Tuesday a team of forensic experts from West Bengal in presence of a four member Police team from Kharagpur Town police station, members of Faizan’s family, magistrate Gautam Priya Mahanta and the local police carried out the exhumation at the Amolapatty burial ground in Dibrugarh.

Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police Bitul Chetia while addressing the media on Monday said that a team of Kharagpur Police has visited his office to get all the necessary permission. 'The team, including West Bengal police officers told me that the exhumation will be done by a forensics team in their presence,' said Chetia.

The body was kept in Morgue in Dibrugarh for the night and it was flown to Kolkata on Wednesday Morning for second post mortem.

Observing the several loopholes on the investigation last year The Calcutta High Court directed for the exhumation and said that it is necessary to ascertain the truth behind the death of Faizan. The postmortem is to be done on 25th April on Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Faizan’s parents told the media that Faizan had raised his voice against ragging and also filed a complaint, 'It was a planned murder as the officials failed to respond  to his complaint and took measures.' they said.

Now that the investigation is again on Faizan’s parents are hopefull that they will get justice for their dead son as last years investigation was incomplete and had many loopholes.
