45-yr-old Dhruvjyoti Chanda, a resident of Silchar's Das Colony area fell from rooftop of their house located at Sharada Sarani on Sunday evening. He was decorating the house for Diwali celebration, according to the family members. 

He fell on the metalic structure made on the boundary wall of the house and sustained severe injuries. According to an onlooker, his hand separated from body after he fell. 

He was taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospitals (SMCH) in critical condition immediately. The doctors admitted him at the emergency ward but his consciousness didn't return. 

As per the SMCH sources, Dhruvjyoti died Monday night after over 25 hours of fight. "With such a severe accident, he was still alive and doctors were trying hard to do some miracle. But his condition only deteriorated," a source from SMCH said. 

Dhruvjyoti Chanda is son of Nagaland's retired additional secretary, Mihir Kumar chanda. He is youngest of four siblings including two sisters. He was not married but was favourite of entire family. 

"He was a full-of-life person and was favourite of everyone especially the kids. His preparation for Diwali started almost a week back and he installed decorative lightings allover the house. That day also he was checking them and suddenly fell from the rooftop," a family member. 

His dead body was handed over to the family members by SMCH authorities on Tuesday afternoon after postmortem process. It was taken to Das Colony and later cremated at Silchar Smashan Ghat in the evening. 

Family members and the neighbours expressed grief over the death. Members of Ashirbad Club assured to stand with the families and they offered condolences. They paid a tribute to late Dhruvjyoti Chanda when the dead body arrived at Das Colony on Tuesday evening.
