Another trained PFI member arrested in Karimganj, 25 nabbed in Assam on Tuesday
Assam police on Tuesday arrested 25 suspected members of the radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) including Karimganj resident named Abusaale Asanur Zaman.
This was the second arrest of a PFI member in Karimganj this week. A few days back, the Special Branch of Assam police arrested another PFI member named Bazrul Karim from the Badarpur.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Special Branch of Assam police are cracking down activities of PFI across the state.
According to Padmanabh Baruah, the superintendent of police of Karimganj district, Abusaale Asanur Zaman was arrested from the Longai Biscuit area near Karimganj town.
"We have registered a case against Longai Biscuit resident Abusaale Asanur Zaman at Karimganj police station (case no 573/22). In the initial investigation, we have found that he was involved in anti-national activities. We have produced him before the court and sought police remand," Baruah said.
In Assam, police arrested 10 PFI members from Goalpara district, 5 from Kamrup (Rural) district, 3 from Dhubri district, 2 each from Barpeta and Baksa district, and one each from Karimganj, Udalguri and Darrang district on Tuesday, according to officials.
