Suresh Raina, the recently retired international cricketer, was suddenly announced to be unavailable for the entire IPL season of 2020 even before a single ball was bowled. The initial rumours about his sudden departure were thought to be related to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Chennai Super Kings squad, however confirmed reports have now surfaced regarding an attack by robbers at his Uncle’s residence in Pathankot district.
His uncle, aged 58 years old, unfortunately has succumbed to his injuries while the rest of the four family members have sustained injuries. The deceased is identified to be Ashok Kumar, a government contractor.
According to the police, the incident took place at Thariyal village in Punjab’s Pathankot, somewhere in the early hours of the 20th of August.
Police also said that the vicious attack was launched by three to four members of the notorious “Kale Kacchewala” gang, with their main objective of looting the household, in the process of which they attacked Ashok Kumar and his family at their house. “Ashok Kumar suffered head injuries and died on the same night”, police added.
Confirming Kumar’s death, Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police, Gulneet Singh Khurana had earlier said that he had no confirmation about the victim’s relation with the cricketer. He also said that the deceased’s wife, Satya Devi has been dischared from the hospital, meanwhile the rest of the family members are still undergoing treatment.
