Various members of the Chennai Super Kings squad have tested positive for COVID-19 after the team’s arrival in Dubai ahead of the Indian Premier League 2020. After BCCI (Board of Control of Cricket in India) received the Indian Government’s approval for conducting the IPL in the United Arab Emirates, CSK left for Dubai last week for the upcoming schedule of the IPL which is to be played from 19th September to 10th November by following the COVID-19 protocols set for the championship. Initially, they were tested at the airport with two tests conducted during their mandatory six day quarantine period at place of their temporary residence.
Sources said that the players, members and staff of CSK underwent a fourth test on Thursday. The reports displayed positive results for some net bowlers, members of social/digital media team and an Indian medium pacer who plays in the shorter formats. Names of members of the CSK team who tested positive have not been disclosed yet by the management.
During these terible times this could have happened to anyone. The source adds, “Even when football started in Europe, a few players had tested positive. With eight IPL teams and over 1,000 members, this was a possibility. This could have happened to any team. It is just unlucky that it has happened to CSK.”
Earlier the team had undergone 3 tests and now they will be tested again before they could start training for the IPL which is considered one of the most famous sports league in the world and the best cricket premiere league in the world.
As a result of multiple members being tested positive for the dreaded virus, the super kings will now have an extended period of quarantine and will be allowed to enter the bio-secure bubble for matches only when they test negative for the COVID-19 after the extended period of isolation.
