Assam Boy RajDeep Choudhury shines brighter : A Cachar Chronicles Exclusive

Dr. Himabrata Das:

Assam’s Talent RajDeep Choudhury achieves a special mention at India’s & Bollywood’s largest Online Short Film awards held by SUNIEL SHETTY & FTC on 14th June.

He thanks Naila Mughal a renowned UK based casting director who encouraged him to participate in this competition.

Rajdeep does not come from a traditional background or area for Bollywood actors. This has meant,as
I have mentioned in previous articles ,difficulties in getting roles in Bollywood. But that has certainly not prevented him working hard to overcome these obstacles to his personal goal of eventual acting success.

Just recently during the lockdown Suniel Shetty and his organisation FTC organized the largest on line short film awards in which Rajdeep’s own ‘Genie’ received a special mention for its strong message presented in such an original way.

This was no ordinary feat as over 1500 films were submitted from 18 different countries! While the judges were a large panel drawn from the Bombay Times,Film writers,Film experts and Critics.

The short film is called the “Old Man and the Genie” which you can now view on Raj’s instagram. Interesting that this short piece was his own concept, script, filming, casting,
direction and yes of course he also managed to give himself an acting role – The Comic Genie 🧞‍♂️

Suniel Shetty said that one of his ideas for this competition in the lockdown, was in some way to help bring on new talent and break some of the nepotism present in the film industry, it seemed appropriate for me then to pen this article, especially with all the added media comment at this time on those very issues.

Rajdeep actually began his career with Arbaaz Khan but he has also acted in TV serials such as Nagin and Pardes Main Hai Mera Dil. In the UK he was made the Face of Wales for the Welsh Tourism Board’s film sponsored by the Daily Telegraph. This year has seen the release of his first lead role in the music video “Udja Udja Re” released by the Zee Music Label, directed by Sachin Karande and shot totally in Spain.Critics have commented already on his “stunning” screen prescence. His career should take yet another move forward later this year with his next film release in a role alongside Bipasha Basu.

I have also been lucky enough to read the storyline for his next major film project .Unfortunately I cannot give away the plot except to say it will be a fast moving Rom Com. So I do believe, given all the current media debate, this is exactly the right time to now show our support for this upcoming new talent to Bollywood especially as he comes from our very own soil.
